When Bollywood celebs found soulmates in arranged marriage

When Bollywood celebs found soulmates in arranged marriage

Mumbai: Bollywood stars are known for immortalising die-hard lovers on the big-screen but in real life many of them choose the traditional way of matrimony.
The latest example of the arranged marriage trend is "Haider" star Shahid Kapoor, who will tie the knot with Delhi University student Mira Rajput in Gurgaon tomorrow, in an alliance arranged by their families.
The 34-year-old actor surprised everyone with the news of him going for the traditional route.
In 2013, when asked what he looks for in a partner, Shahid had said, "I have not thought about it so much. When you fall in love everything seems right... If I fall in love that will be good enough."

Shahid was in a relationship with actress Kareena Kapoor Khan for over three years and later linked to Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Bipasha Basu.
Superstar Salman Khan, who has always made headlines for his relationships with various actresses, has also expressed his desire to settle down in an arranged set up.
"I am open to arranged marriage. Sometimes, love marriages don't work and arranged marriages do. And sometimes, it's the other way round. It depends on the individuals, how they go about their lives, how compatible they are," Salman had said.
Several other B-town celebrities have also tread the same path. Actress Madhuri Dixit had an arranged marriage with doctor Shriram Nene in 1999.
The actress then moved to the US and bid farewell to Bollywood, not for long though. She came to India with the musical drama "Aaja Nachle" in 2007 and went back again only to return permanently to Mumbai in 2011 along with her husband and two sons.
"Masti" star Vivek Oberoi had an arranged marriage to Priyanka Alva, daughter of Karnataka minister Jeevaraj Alva in 2010.
"Priyanka just fills me with positivity, love, peace and calm. In the last two-and-half years that I have been married, I have changed a lot as a person. For me I have nobody who I hate, I don't have place for hate in life," Vivek had said in 2013.
The two are happily married and have two children - Vivaan Veer Oberoi and Ameyaa Nirvana Oberoi.
Late legendary actor Shammi Kapoor also had an arranged affair with Neila Devi after the demise of his first wife Geeta Bali. Reportedly, the marriage was arranged by his filmmaker brother Raj Kapoor's wife Krishna Kapoor.
Raj Kapoor too had a traditional arranged marriage. He was married to his distant cousin Krishna Malhotra. Reportedly, his father, Prithviraj Kapoor brought the couple together.
Actress Karisma Kapoor was engaged to actor Abhishek Bachchan, but their wedding was called-off.
She later married Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapoor and has two children Samaira and Kiaan. In 2013, the couple filed for divorce.
